Busy Being Blessed

Getting Real

When you tell your kids the truth about things, how much detail do you give them?
Jeremiah and I went shopping yesterday. He wanted to spend his Target gift card that Aunt Nat and Uncle Jay got him for his birthday.
Somehow, abortion came up in our conversation. I didn’t know how much detail to go into, but I shared a bit. He was, expectedly, upset. He said, in a very sad, very wise voice, “I never even knew such a horrible thing existed.”
I know, Buddy, I know.
Is 8 too young to know about such things? Sometimes I think it’s not young enough, but I couldn’t talk to him about it in detail before.

Let’s talk imaginary friends….Have you ever had a four year old who could not admit that his imaginary friends were pretend? Jamin has two friends from church who do not exist. Trio and Chuck. He says they are both little boys who are in his class. He says his best friends are Jackson (real child), Chuck and Trio. Do we go along, try to convince, ignore, what? I can’t recall Jeremiah or Josiah ever having imaginary friends like this…
